What is VA 22-1990?

The 22-1990 applies for education benefits earned through service. The Post-9/11 GI Bill pays tuition up to the in-state public rate (or the private-school cap), a monthly housing allowance tied to the school’s location, and a book stipend, scaled by your qualifying service time. The form also covers the Montgomery GI Bill programs where elections still apply.

Approval produces a Certificate of Eligibility your school’s certifying official uses to bill the VA. Transferred benefits for spouses and children use different forms (22-1990E), as does changing schools later (22-1995).
