What is CH2 (CS)?
The CH2 Child Benefit claim form has room for two children. Where you are claiming for a third or further child, HMRC publishes CH2 (CS) as an additional child continuation sheet so the extra children can be recorded in the same format the main form uses.
The sheet repeats the child details questions from the main form: the child’s full name as shown on their birth or adoption certificate, sex, date of birth, whether the birth was registered in England, Wales or Scotland, any other name the child has been known by and whether it was changed by deed poll, whether anyone has ever claimed Child Benefit for the child before, whether the child lives with you in the UK, and whether they have lived with anyone else in the last 12 months. It is not a claim in its own right and cannot be sent on its own, so it only has effect when it is attached to a completed CH2.

How to fill out CH2 (CS)
- Complete the main CH2 claim form first, using its child details section for the first two children.
- Print a CH2 (CS) sheet for the additional children and enter each child’s full name as shown on their birth or adoption certificate, their sex and their date of birth.
- Answer whether the birth was registered in England, Wales or Scotland. If it was, you give the reference from the birth certificate instead of sending documents: the 9 digit system number for England and Wales, or the district number, year and entry number for Scotland.
- Complete the remaining questions for each child: any other name they have been known by, whether anyone has claimed Child Benefit for them before, whether they live with you in the UK, and whether they have lived at another address in the last 12 months.
- Send the CH2 with the continuation sheet attached to Child Benefit Office (GB), Washington, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE88 1ZD, using the correct postage.

Frequently asked questions
Can I send CH2 (CS) on its own?
No. It is a continuation sheet for the CH2 claim form and only has effect when it is attached to a completed CH2. Sending it alone will not start or update a claim.
How many children fit on one continuation sheet?
The sheet is one page. If you are claiming for enough children that one sheet is not enough, print and attach as many copies as you need.
Is there a faster way to add a child?
HMRC says claiming online or through the HMRC app is quicker than the paper route. The paper CH2 with continuation sheets is for people who cannot claim that way.
