What is T2222?
T2222, Northern Residents Deductions, lets people who lived in a prescribed zone for a continuous period claim two deductions on their income tax and benefit return. The residency deduction is based on the number of days lived in the zone, at a higher rate for a prescribed northern zone and a lower rate for a prescribed intermediate zone. The travel deduction covers eligible trips, and the form works through the days, amounts and the lowest return airfare or other limits that apply to the travel benefit.

What are the two parts of the deduction?
There is a residency deduction based on the days you lived in a prescribed zone, and a travel deduction for eligible trips. A northern zone allows a higher residency rate than an intermediate zone.
Do I need to keep records?
Yes. Keep proof of the dates you lived in the zone and, for the travel deduction, records of the trips and costs. The CRA can ask you to support the amounts you claim.
