What is VA Form 10182?

VA Form 10182, Decision Review Request: Board Appeal (Notice of Disagreement), is one of the three decision review options under VA's Appeals Modernization Act system. Filing it asks a Veterans Law Judge at the Board of Veterans' Appeals to review the decision, rather than having VA regional office staff take another look.

The form has you choose a Board docket: direct review based on the evidence already in your file, evidence submission if you want to add new evidence within the allowed window, or a hearing with a Veterans Law Judge. You list each issue you disagree with and the date of the decision for each one.

How long do I have to file a Board appeal?

Generally you must file VA Form 10182 within one year of the date on your VA decision notice. If you miss the window, you may still be able to file a Supplemental Claim with new and relevant evidence. Check the current instructions at va.gov for your situation.

Which Board docket should I choose?

Direct review is usually fastest because the judge decides on the existing record. Choose evidence submission if you have new evidence to add, or the hearing docket if you want to speak to a Veterans Law Judge. You can only pick one option per appeal.

Can I switch from a Higher-Level Review to a Board appeal?

Yes. After a Higher-Level Review or Supplemental Claim decision, you can take the issue to the Board with VA Form 10182, as long as you file within the allowed time after that decision.
