What is N1?
Form N1, Notice of Rent Increase, is a Tribunals Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board form a landlord uses to give a tenant written notice of a rent increase. It sets out the current rent, the new rent, and the date the increase takes effect. Under Ontario law the landlord must give at least 90 days written notice, and for most rental units the increase cannot be more than the annual rent increase guideline.

How much notice do I have to give?
A landlord must give the tenant at least 90 days written notice of a rent increase using Form N1. The new rent cannot start earlier than the date on the notice.
Can I increase the rent by any amount?
For most units the increase cannot be more than the annual rent increase guideline set for the year, unless an exception applies. Check the current guideline and any exceptions on the Tribunals Ontario website.
