DS700(SP) is the version of the Carer's Allowance claim form for people who already receive State Pension, where the two payments interact through the overlapping benefit rules.

What is DS700(SP)?

Carer's Allowance and State Pension are overlapping benefits, so a person who gets a full State Pension often cannot be paid Carer's Allowance on top. Claiming can still be worthwhile, because an underlying entitlement to Carer's Allowance can unlock extra amounts in other benefits such as Pension Credit.

DS700(SP) is shorter than the standard DS700 because it leaves out questions that do not apply to pensioners. It still asks about you, the person you care for, the hours of care, breaks in caring, time abroad and any other benefits you receive.

Carers who already receive State Pension and care for at least 35 hours a week
Pensioners caring for someone who gets a qualifying disability benefit
People claiming to establish underlying entitlement for Pension Credit purposes
Someone claiming on a pensioner carer's behalf with their authority

How to fill out DS700(SP)

Check the Carer's Allowance guidance on gov.uk and confirm the person you care for gets a qualifying benefit.
Fill in your details, including your National Insurance number and State Pension information.
Give the details of the person you care for and the care you provide each week.
Answer the questions about breaks in caring, time spent abroad and other benefits.
Sign the declaration and post the form to the Carer's Allowance Unit at the address printed on it.

Worth knowing: Carer's Allowance and State Pension overlap, so a claim may produce underlying entitlement rather than an extra payment. Check the gov.uk guidance first.

Will I actually be paid Carer's Allowance alongside my State Pension?

Often not in full, because the two overlap. Many pensioners still claim to establish underlying entitlement, which can increase Pension Credit. Read the gov.uk guidance or get advice before deciding.

What is the difference between DS700 and DS700(SP)?

DS700(SP) is the version for people already getting State Pension and is shorter. Use the standard DS700 if you do not get State Pension.
