What is G-884?

Form G-884 is the USCIS request for getting back original documents that were filed with an application or petition and remain in a USCIS file. Typical requests cover civil documents like birth, marriage, and divorce certificates, school records, and other originals a person needs back for personal use.

The request must identify the documents, the file they are in (usually by A-number or receipt number), and the requestor's relationship to the documents. USCIS requires proof of identity and, where someone requests documents belonging to another person, evidence of authority such as consent, guardianship, or proof of death and relationship. There is no filing fee.
