What is I-90?

Form I-90 is the permanent resident’s card-maintenance form. Renewal applies when a 10-year card has expired or expires within six months; replacement covers loss, theft, damage, name changes, and USCIS errors (which are corrected free). It is not for conditional two-year cards, whose holders remove conditions with Form I-751 instead.

Filing produces a receipt notice that itself extends the card’s validity for a printed period, useful for work and travel while the new card is produced. USCIS also accepts this application online, and the filing fee should always be checked at uscis.gov before sending.

Who files I-90?

Permanent residents whose 10-year card is expiring or expired
Anyone whose card was lost, stolen, damaged, or never received
Residents updating a legal name or correcting card errors
Not conditional residents, who use Form I-751
