What is I-130A?

Form I-130A, Supplemental Information for Spouse Beneficiary, is completed by the foreign spouse when a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident files Form I-130 for them. It gathers the spouse beneficiary’s address history, employment history for the last five years both inside and outside the United States, and information about their parents.

It is not a standalone filing. The completed I-130A goes into the same package as the I-130 petition, and USCIS uses it for background checks and to build the beneficiary’s record. There is no separate filing fee for the I-130A itself.

How to fill out I-130A

Enter your name, A-Number if any, and other identifying information in Part 1.
List your address history and your employment history for the last five years, including jobs outside the United States.
Provide your parents’ names, dates of birth, and places of birth in the family information section.
Sign the form if you are inside the United States; if you live abroad, complete it but leave the signature blank.
Download the finished PDF and include it in the Form I-130 package your spouse mails to the USCIS lockbox listed in the I-130 instructions, or upload the details if the I-130 is filed online.

No. It is filed together with Form I-130, and the I-130 filing fee covers the package. Check current fees at uscis.gov before filing.

Does my spouse abroad have to sign the I-130A?

No. USCIS says a spouse beneficiary living outside the United States must complete the form but does not have to sign it. A spouse in the United States must sign.

Is the I-130A required for every I-130?

It is required only when the I-130 is filed for a spouse. Petitions for parents, children, or siblings do not use the I-130A.
