How long do I have to request a reconsideration?
You normally have thirty days from the day you were told of the decision. If you are late, explain why on the form, since Service Canada can allow more time in some circumstances.
Is reconsideration the same as an appeal?
No. Reconsideration is the required first step, handled inside Service Canada. Only after you receive the reconsideration decision can you appeal to the Social Security Tribunal if you still disagree.
