What is SF200 (child)?

Funeral Expenses Payment is a Social Fund payment that helps with burial or cremation fees, the doctor's certificate, travel connected with the funeral, moving the body more than 50 miles within the UK, death certificates and a capped amount towards other funeral costs. The child version of SF200 runs to 20 pages rather than 28 because the questions about the estate of the person who has died are much shorter.

It sits alongside the Children's Funeral Fund for England, which is not means tested and pays burial fees, cremation fees and a contribution towards a coffin or shroud for a child under 18 or a baby stillborn after the 24th week of pregnancy. Where a funeral director is used, the provider claims the Children's Funeral Fund directly, and this form is how a family on a qualifying benefit claims the extra costs the fund does not meet.

How to fill out SF200 (child)

Worth knowing: The Children's Funeral Fund for England is separate and is not means tested. Funeral Expenses Payment does depend on getting a qualifying benefit, and the claim must reach DWP within 6 months of the funeral.

Do I need this form if the funeral director claims the Children's Funeral Fund?

You may still need it. The Children's Funeral Fund for England covers burial or cremation fees and a contribution towards a coffin, and the provider usually claims it directly. Other funeral costs are claimed through Funeral Expenses Payment, which is what this form is for.
