GIRO Application Form for Goods and Services Tax

This one page IRAS form sets up a GIRO arrangement for Goods and Services Tax, so GST payments are deducted from your bank account and GST refunds are credited back to it.

This is the genuine IRAS PDF, unmodified. Source: IRAS official page.

What is GIRO (GST)?

GIRO is the standing instruction that lets IRAS debit and credit a nominated bank account. For GST registered businesses it removes the need to arrange a separate payment each accounting period and gives IRAS an account to pay refunds into. The form is used both by businesses that are already GST registered and by businesses that are applying for GST registration.

Part 1 asks for the name of the business, the tax reference number, which can be a UEN, GST registration number or, for a sole proprietor, an NRIC or FIN, the contact number and email address, whether you are applying for or already have GST registration, and the bank name, account number and account name exactly as the bank holds it. Part 2 is completed by IRAS and Part 3 by the bank. IRAS states the form takes less than 5 minutes to complete and that the GIRO arrangement will be set up within 21 days.

Who files GIRO (GST)?

  • GST registered businesses that want GST payments deducted automatically
  • Businesses applying for GST registration that want a GIRO arrangement in place from the start
  • Sole proprietors registering for GST under their NRIC or FIN
  • Businesses under GST group or divisional registration, using the group registration reference number

How to fill out GIRO (GST)

  1. Enter the name of the business and the tax reference number, using the group registration reference number if you are under GST group or divisional registration.

Frequently asked questions

Can I set up GIRO for GST without posting a form?

IRAS also offers digital GIRO applications through myTax Portal with Singpass or Corppass and through participating banks' internet banking. Check the current options on iras.gov.sg; the paper form remains available if your bank or account type is not supported online.

What happens if my account does not have enough money?

The declaration on the form says the bank may reject the debit instruction and charge you a fee, or may allow the debit and let the account go overdrawn with charges. Keep enough in the account on the deduction date.

How do I cancel the GIRO arrangement?

The authorisation stays in force until the bank gives you written notice terminating it, or until the bank receives your revocation. Contact your bank and IRAS if you want to stop the arrangement.
