GIRO Application Form for Property Tax

This one page IRAS form sets up a GIRO arrangement for property tax, letting you spread the yearly bill over monthly instalments or pay it in a single yearly deduction.

This is the genuine IRAS PDF, unmodified. Source: IRAS official page.

What is GIRO (Property Tax)?

Property tax in Singapore is payable by 31 January each year. A GIRO arrangement is how most owners spread that bill, and it also gives IRAS an account to credit any property tax refund into. The form covers both payment and refund of property tax.

Part 1 asks for the name of the taxpayer, the property tax (PTX) reference number printed at the top left of your property tax bill, a contact number and email address, the payment plan option, and the bank name, account number, account name as the bank holds it and the account holder's NRIC, FIN or UEN. If you own more than one property you can attach a signed list of PTX reference numbers. IRAS notes that the plan defaults to monthly if you do not choose, that the form takes less than 5 minutes, and that the arrangement is set up within 21 days.

Who files GIRO (Property Tax)?

  • Owners of Singapore residential or commercial property who want to pay property tax by instalments
  • Owners who want a single yearly GIRO deduction instead of paying manually
  • Owners of several properties, attaching a signed list of PTX reference numbers
  • Companies and other entities paying property tax under a UEN

How to fill out GIRO (Property Tax)

  1. Enter the name of the taxpayer and the property tax reference number from the top left corner of your property tax bill.
  2. Add a contact number and email address, and tick One-Time Yearly or Monthly; leaving it blank defaults the plan to monthly.
  3. Enter the bank name, account number, account name as in the bank's records and the account holder's NRIC, FIN or UEN.
  4. Sign or thumbprint in the signature box exactly as the bank has it on record, and countersign rather than correct any amendment.
  5. Mail the completed form to IRAS at 55 Newton Road, Revenue House, Singapore 307987; the GIRO arrangement will be set up within 21 days.
Worth knowing: Property tax is due by 31 January each year. If you leave the plan type blank the arrangement defaults to monthly instalments, so tick One-Time Yearly if that is what you want.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for property tax GIRO online instead?

Yes. IRAS lets you apply for or manage a property tax GIRO plan with Singpass through its digital services, and through DBS, OCBC and UOB internet banking. The paper form is the alternative if those routes do not fit your account.

I own several properties. Do I need one form each?

No. The form says to attach a separate list of PTX reference numbers if the space is insufficient, and every page of that list must be signed by the authorised signatory as in the bank's records.

What if I want to use a thumbprint instead of a signature?

The form allows thumbprints, but you have to go to your bank's branch in person with your identification documents so the bank can verify it.
