What is DA Form 5513?

DA Form 5513, Key Control Register and Inventory, tracks every key in a unit's key control program. It lists the keys and locks under control, records each issue and turn-in with signatures, dates, and times, and documents the periodic joint inventories of keys on hand.

The form supports physical security requirements, including those in AR 190-11 for arms, ammunition, and explosives. A properly maintained register shows exactly who had which key at any time, which is why inspectors check it closely during security inspections.

Frequently asked questions

How often do keys have to be inventoried?

Inventory intervals depend on what the keys protect. Keys for arms, ammunition, and explosives follow the stricter requirements of AR 190-11; other keys follow AR 190-51 and your local security SOP. Check the current regulations for the interval that applies.

Can DA Form 5513 be kept electronically?

Many units fill the form electronically, but signatures for issue and turn-in must still be captured the way your security SOP requires. Ask your physical security officer before switching to a purely digital register.
