What is EP1PG?
Enduring powers of attorney could no longer be made after October 2007, but existing ones remain valid. An attorney who believes the donor is becoming or has become mentally incapable has to register the EPA before continuing to act, and registration is preceded by notice on form EP1PG.
The notice tells the donor and the people entitled to receive notice that registration is about to be applied for, and it explains how they can object. Notice has to be given before the application form EP2PG is sent in. The notes published with EP2PG set out who must be notified and the time limits, so read them alongside this form.

How to fill out EP1PG
- Read the notes for completing EP2PG to work out exactly who is entitled to receive notice.
- Fill in the donor's details and the details of the attorney or attorneys applying to register.
- Complete a copy of the notice for each person entitled to be notified, including the donor.
- Give or send the notices, then keep a record of who was notified and on what date.
- Once the notice period in the guidance has passed, send application form EP2PG with the original EPA or a certified copy, and the fee, to the Office of the Public Guardian, PO Box 16185, Birmingham B2 2WH.

Frequently asked questions
Can I still make a new enduring power of attorney?
No. EPAs could not be created after 1 October 2007. New powers are made as lasting powers of attorney on forms LP1F or LP1H. EPAs made before that date can still be registered and used.
Is there a fee to register an EPA?
Yes, the Office of the Public Guardian charges a registration fee, and exemption or remission may be available on form LPA120. Check the current fee on gov.uk before sending your application.
What happens if someone objects?
People given notice can object to registration on the grounds set out in the guidance. An objection is dealt with by the Court of Protection, and registration is put on hold until it is resolved.
