What is G-28?

Form G-28 establishes the attorney-client or representative-client relationship for a specific immigration matter before USCIS (and, in some situations, CBP or ICE). Once a valid G-28 is on file, the agency recognizes the representative, accepts filings and inquiries from them, and sends copies of notices about the case.

The form identifies the representative, their eligibility (licensed attorney or DOJ-accredited representative of a recognized organization), and the client, and both sign it. There is no filing fee. A new G-28 is generally needed for each form filed and whenever representation changes.

How to fill out G-28

The representative completes their information, bar or accreditation details, and the client's information.
Mark whose behalf the appearance is entered (applicant, petitioner, requestor, or respondent) and the specific matter.
Both the representative and the client sign the form.
File the G-28 with the underlying application or petition, or submit it to the office handling an already pending case.
Keep a copy; USCIS will send the representative courtesy copies of notices once the appearance is accepted.
