What is IMM 1344?
The Application to Sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking, IMM 1344, is issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). A Canadian citizen or permanent resident uses it to apply to sponsor a family class relative, such as a spouse, common-law partner, dependent child or parent, for permanent residence. It combines the sponsor’s application with the undertaking, a binding promise to provide for the sponsored person’s basic needs for a set period.

How long does the undertaking last?
The undertaking period depends on the relationship and, for a spouse or partner, on the province. It is a binding financial commitment, so read the agreement in full and confirm the current length on the IRCC site before you sign.

Does the sponsored person fill in this form too?
No. IMM 1344 is the sponsor’s form. The person being sponsored completes their own generic application and supporting forms, and the two sets of forms are submitted together.
