Form OC1 is the HM Land Registry application for official copies of a registered title. You use it to obtain an official copy of the register, the title plan, or a certificate in Form CI on a developing estate.

What is OC1?
Official copies are the version of the register and title plan that HM Land Registry certifies as a true record at a stated date and time. Because they are admissible in evidence, they are what conveyancers and litigators use to prove ownership, check restrictions and charges, and support an application to the court.
The form asks for the title number or, where you do not have one, enough detail about the property for the registry to identify it, together with what you want copies of and how many. It is completed and sent in with the correct fee. For everyday, non-legal purposes you can instead buy and download a copy of the register or title plan through the Find a property service on gov.uk.

How to fill out OC1
- Find the title number if you can. Without it, describe the property fully enough for HM Land Registry to identify the title.
- Tick what you need: an official copy of the register, the title plan, or a certificate in Form CI, and say how many copies.
- Give the name and address the copies should be sent to, and quote your key number if you have one.
- Work out the fee. Check the current information services fees on gov.uk, as HM Land Registry updates its fee order from time to time.
- Send the completed form with the correct fee to HM Land Registry at the address given in the form’s guidance notes, or use the registry’s online services if you have an account.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an official copy, or will a downloaded copy do?
A copy downloaded from the Find a property service is fine for general information. If you need a document that is admissible in evidence in court, apply on form OC1 for an official copy.
What is the difference between OC1 and OC2?
OC1 applies for official copies of the register and title plan. OC2 is used to apply for official copies of documents referred to in the register, such as a lease or a transfer containing covenants.
What if the property is not registered?
If the land has never been registered there is no register to copy. HM Land Registry can carry out a search of the index map, on form SIM, to confirm whether a title exists.
