What is AR-11?
Form AR-11 satisfies the legal duty under section 265 of the INA: nearly every non-citizen in the US longer than 30 days must report each change of address within 10 days of moving. Willful failure is technically a misdemeanor and can carry immigration consequences, but the practical stake is mail: USCIS notices, biometrics appointments, and interview dates go to the address on file, and missing them can sink a case.
The AR-11 alone does not update pending applications; USCIS asks you to update each receipt number too, which its online change-of-address tool does in one pass. The paper form remains valid for anyone who prefers mail.

- Permanent residents and visa holders who moved

How to fill out AR-11
- Enter your name, A-number if you have one, and country of citizenship.
- Fill in the old and new addresses and the date of the move.
- Download, sign, and mail it to the USCIS address on the form, or file the same change online through your USCIS account, which also covers pending cases.
- Keep proof of filing; the 10-day clock is a legal requirement.

Does the post office forwarding cover this?
No, and some USCIS mail is marked do-not-forward. The legal duty is to notify USCIS directly, and secure documents sent to an old address are often returned and reissued slowly.
