• The Utah DMV handles title transfers, and many transfers of Utah titles can be completed online through the Motor Vehicle Portal, including person to person transfers.
• Utah publishes its own Bill of Sale, Form TC-843, and a separate Odometer Disclosure Statement, Form TC-891. Our template is a general-purpose alternative that also covers items outside vehicles.
• A bill of sale carries real weight in Utah when the title is missing. The DMV describes taking an Application for Duplicate Utah Title along with a bill of sale to complete the transfer, and allows a bill of sale plus fees to get a temporary permit while an out of state duplicate title is obtained.
• Check how ownership is listed on the title. The DMV explains that owners joined by the word and must all sign to transfer the title, while owners joined by the word or means only one of them needs to sign.
• We could not confirm a statutory deadline for applying for a Utah title after a private purchase from a state source. Confirm the timing and any late fees with the Utah DMV before you buy.
• The DMV does not list notarization as a requirement for a private-sale bill of sale. Confirm what your DMV office needs, especially for a transfer without a title.

What if the seller cannot find the Utah title?

The DMV describes using an Application for Duplicate Utah Title together with a bill of sale, which both requests the duplicate and allows the seller to transfer it to you. For an out of state title, the seller has to get the duplicate from that state.
