- Wyoming titles and lien filings are processed through the local county clerk office in the county seat of the county of residence, not through a statewide DMV counter.
- Under W.S. 31-2-104 the seller endorses an assignment and warranty of title on the certificate, with a statement of all liens, and that assignment must be signed and dated by the owner before a notarial officer and acknowledged. The notarization applies to the title assignment itself.
- The buyer then presents the certificate to a county clerk and applies for a new certificate of title within the time periods in W.S. 31-2-201(a)(ii), which sets 45 days for an ordinary private transfer and 60 days for several dealer related transfers.
- Wyoming does not require a general bill of sale for every private sale. A statutory vehicle bill of sale form appears in W.S. 31-2-104(h)(ii) for the narrower case where the transferor is a vehicle auctioneer or the title is held by a bank or other financial institution and will be delivered within 30 days.
